Izmir University of Economics (IUE) participated in Turkey Innovation Week organized by Turkish Exporters Assembly and Aegean Exporters' Associations. The students, with their 12 innovative projects which focus on finding practical solutions to many different daily problems, introduced their projects to the other participants. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen visited the students at their booth and got information about the projects.
President Ekrem Demirtaş stated that culture of innovation was taught to students at Izmir University of Economics, and with that culture, students worked on bringing practical solutions to everyday problems. Demirtaş said, “Entrepreneurship is not possible through courage only. Students need to have strong backgrounds as well as innovative visions.”
Students got a chance to meet with investors and displayed their designs throughout the week. Mehmet Ergül, Junior at IUE Department of Industrial Design, introduced his stove top project to President Demirtaş, Rector Prof. Dr. Esen, and Ömer Yüngül, CEO of Zorlu Holding.
Ergül said, “The system underneath the burners blow out air and form a controlled air wall over the stove. This helps prevent the oil, juice splashing from the dishes, from dirtying the walls or the counter tops. The wok burner in the middle can be used for grilling. All the cooking exhaust is directed towards the range hood thanks to the air barrier. My design allows grilling indoors.”
