A protocol was signed between Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Hakan Ülken, Chairman of Executive Board of Aydın Chamber of Commerce, to ensure Aydın youth is taking firm steps towards the future. First degree blood relatives of members of Aydın Chamber of Commerce and District Chambers of Commerce qualified for 15% discount in annual tuition fees of Izmir University of Economics at the ceremony that took place at 4th Promotion and Career Days of Aydın Higher Education Institutions. Along with President Demirtaş and Ülken, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector, attended the ceremony.
Ekrem Demirtaş reminded that the 1st National Economy Congress convened in Izmir, and that they established Izmir University of Economics in 2001 in order to execute the will of their ancestors. “The trade authority, who convened at the 1st National Economy Congress, said ‘chambers of commerce need to establish universities in big cities’ as cited in the minutes. When we established Izmir University of Economics in 2001, we got inspired by the will in 1923 and Ataturk’s speech, ‘economy means everything’ at the congress. Therefore, we started out with training students who will meet the demands of business world as a mission,” said Ekrem Demirtaş.
President Demirtaş pointed that the University focused on producing graduates who were establishing their own businesses rather than seeking employment, and the medium of instruction was English. In addition to the academicians, students were the major key of success of the University, stated Demirtaş. He said that they took the request of Aydın Chamber of Commerce into consideration and that they would be providing 15% discount to the children of members of Aydın Chamber of Commerce and District Chambers of Commerce.
‘We take advantage of the experience’
Hakan Ülken, Chairman of Executive Board of Aydın Chamber of Commerce, stated that there was nothing that a person from the Aegean Region could not achieve. Ülken said, “An Aegean can achieve anything he wants. Everything is bestowed to us by the Creator. Ekrem Demirtaş is a trade mark. You can become a Chairman but not a trademark. Appreciating and taking advantage of experience is very important. We are trying to take advantage of that. The protocol includes Aydın and all its districts.”
‘Aydın is a powerful city’
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen stated that the university offered 8 faculties, 2 vocational schools, 2 schools, and 2 graduate schools and over 7 thousand students. He said, “We are one of the 23 universities that ranked in the first 500 universities worldwide. We offer a second foreign language in addition to English. We train innovative and entrepreneurial students. Aydın is a powerful city. They will get a high quality of education here at Izmir University of Economics.”
